Growing up I was blind to addiction. Due to never experiencing addiction , I frowned up it up until my incarceration. I could never understand why and how people could hurt themselves as well as their family just to use and abuse drugs. In 2009, I was incarcerated and facing a life sentence. In that moment and still ( eight years later) j encountered many beautiful women that spent a majority of their life stuck in addiction. I then, took the time to learn and understand what exactly happens and how it happens. I understand that there is a deeper root than the eye can see causing people to use drugs and avoid the pain that comes with plucking that root. There is a transformation that takes place from the true identity of these people into the addiction. I have found a passion for these people versus judging them. A lot of people believe you can't help a person go through something you've never been through. However, I feel although I haven't been there physically, I've been there emotionally and mentally. I am no longer blind to addiction or the abuses.
