2010 I made a decision that I regretted but also changed the way I did things and handled things in volatile situations.
It was around noon on a Sunday afternoon when my partner at the time told me to grab her phone. She sent her ex-boyfriend a message asking him to drop their daughter off at Walmart at six that evening. He kept insisting on coming up to the house and she said ok but asked him to have an officer with him during the exchange because of past situations that had taken place on the property. He kept denying her request to have an officer and showed up at our house anyways without a cop. My ex refused to open the door for him because he had already starting hollering at the door. She asked him to please go to the Walmart so we would be in a public place. (Opening the door to him, no matter the circumstance, was a lesson we had learned not to do during a prior exchange.) He declined and started to bang and kick our door. We asked him to leave and we would get an officer to come assist with the exchange. While we were on the phone with the P.D. he started to walk away so we opened the door and told their little girl to run and come in the house.
